Strange Baryon Production in Heavy Ion Collisions
نویسندگان
چکیده
The rapidity distribution of Λ and Λ̄ produced in nucleus-nucleus collisions at CERN energies is studied in the framework of an independent string model with quark-antiquark as well as diquark-antidiquark pairs in the nucleon sea. It is shown that, besides the Λ-Λ̄ pair production resulting from the fragmentation of sea diquarks, final state interactions of co-moving secondaries π +N → K + Λ and π + N̄ → K + Λ̄ are needed in order to reproduce the data. Predictions for Pb-Pb collisions are presented.

Baryon Stopping and Strangeness Production in Ultra-relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions *
The stopping behaviour of baryons in massive heavy ion collisions ( √ s ≫ 10AGeV) is investigated within different microscopic models. At SPS-energies the predictions range from full stopping to virtually total transparency. Experimental data are indicating strong stopping. The initial baryo-chemical potentials and temperatures at collider energies and their impact on the formation probability ...
متن کاملStrange Baryon Production From Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions at the AGS, SPS and RHIC
We will present a review of selected results on strange baryon production from nucleus-nucleus collisions at the AGS, SPS and RHIC. From the AGS and SPS heavy ion physics program several intriguing aspects: centrality dependence of strangeness production, anti-hyperon yield, hyperon production enhancement and baryon number transport will be highlighted. Our discussion on RHIC results will focus...
متن کاملStrangeness Production in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions
The aim of the experimental program of relativistic heavy ion collisions is to the study nuclear matter under extreme conditions of temperature and energy density. In order to achieve this goal, is necessary to understand the dynamics of such collisions. The most striking feature of relativistic heavy ion collisions is the copious production of particles of a great variety of species. The compr...

This talk is devoted to review the field of strangeness production in (ultra-)relativistic heavy ion collisions within our present theoretical understanding. Historically there have been (at least) three major ideas for the interest in the production of strange hadronic particles: (1) mass modification of the kaons in a (baryon-)dense environment; (2) (early) K-production probes the nuclear equ...

It is shown that the ratio of strange to non-strange particle production in relativistic heavy ion collisions is expected to reach a maximum at beam energies around 30 A·GeV in the lab frame. This maximum is unique to heavy ion collisions, and has no equivalent in elementary particle collisions. The appearance of the maximum is due to the energy dependence of the chemical freeze-out parameters ...
متن کاملStrangeness in Quark Matter: Opening Talk
We discuss several new developments in the field of strange and heavy flavor physics in high energy heavy ion collisions. As shown by many recent theoretical works, heavy flavored particles give us a unique opportunity to study the properties of systems created in these collisions. Two in particular important aspects, the production of (multi) strange hypernuclei and the properties of heavy fla...
